QUSO is undergoing talks to allow members the opportunity to gain a Degree Plus award as members through being a member of the orchestra.
We believe playing in QUSO throughout the year should contribute towards the award of Degree Plus, which is recognised on your academic transcript.
Regular attendance over the whole year at an extra-curricular group like QUSO, the personal practice of the pieces required at home, and the ability to work together as a team to put on concerts to a high standard are all skills which could be recognised by this award.
Further information, including details on how to register for the award scheme, can be found on the Degree Plus website.

How to gain the award:
- The Degree Plus award scheme is completely optional, and it is your own responsibility to register and work towards the award. You must first attend a 1 hour induction session – session times and sign-up forms are linked on the Degree Plus website.
- There are two routes to the award. Most members of QUSO will opt for Route B: the ‘combined experiences’ route. Playing in QUSO would constitute one half of the ‘experience’ required for the award via this route. (You would combine playing with QUSO with another activity chosen from a list – this is all explained on the Degree Plus website and at your induction session).
- When the time comes to apply for your award, QUSO can provide evidence of your presence at our rehearsals and concerts through our attendance records – just contact us at [email protected] if you require this. It is reasonable to assume that people who wish to gain the award should aim for maximum attendance, but in any case the award assessors will decide if your attendance has been sufficient when they receive your final application.
