A Night of Dances with QUSO
8TH JUNE 2022 | 7:30PM | GALWAY CATHEDRAL
QUSO brings the music to Galway on their 2022 Summer Tour to finish off the 2021/22 Season! QUSO, its players, conductors and committee were delighted to return to Galway Cathedral in June 2022. This concert marked a great feat, with all performed music started and perfected in our three-day Development Week course. Under conductors, Colm Mohan and Maebh Martin, QUSO performed music from Tchaikovsky's Swan Lake, Badelt's Pirated of the Carribean, the beautiul Adagio from Spartacus (Khachaturian), some of Dvorak's Slavonic Dances, Faure's Sicilliene and M. Martin's arrangement of the famous Riverdance! We were thrilled to receive such a fantastic audience, both in the Cathedral and live on Facebook! If you missed it (or just fancy another look), check out the video below. |
Plane Ticket (Radio Play)
|
WEDNESDAY 13TH - THURSDAY 14TH APRIL 2022 | SONIC ARTS RESEARCH CENTRE, BELFAST
QUSO teams up with Darragh Tibbs, QUB Scribblers, composers, actors and a fab audio production team to provide the music for a brand new Radio Play, Plane Ticket. This was an absolutely fantastic experience for QUSO, as a brand new format of performance for most in the orchestra. We rehearsed and recorded in the Sonic Lab of SARC, while the voice actors were in the studio, recording live with the music. The score was composed by QUB students, the script written by a QUB student, it was filmed by QUB students, was produced and mixed by QUB students and (from us) was played by QUB students - an incredible feat and a wonderful project to be part of! We can't wait to share the final product with you soon - a very emotional play and we think you're going to LOVE it! |

IAYO 26th Festival of Youth Orchestras
19TH FEBRAURY 2022 | 7:30PM | NATIONAL CONCERT HALL, DUBLIN
QUSO takes on the National Concert Hall with IAYO's 26th Festival of Youth Orchestras QUSO, its players, conductors and management committee were delighted to perform once again in the Irish Association of Youth Orchestra’s (IAYO) Festival of Youth Orchestras in the National Concert Hall, Dublin, in February 2022. This concert marked the first time we have been able to perform as a full orchestra since February 2020 and it was certainly worth the wait. Under conductor, Colm Mohan, QUSO closed the concert with a superb performance of the Finale from The Firebird Suite by Stravinsky. Other pieces included an exquisite solo performance of Tara’s Theme from Gone with the Wind by our leader, Tara Mulvey, a beautiful arrangement of the Pilgrims’ Chorus from Tannhäuser by Wagner, led by our front desk Cellists and Double Bassists, and an inspired rendition of Mascagni’s Cavalleria Rusticana. We were thrilled to receive a standing ovation for the performance from the National Concert Hall audience and a huge amount of gratitude is owed to the IAYO for their incredibly thorough organisation of the Festival. The tour was extremely well received by our players and plans are now underway to organise a summer tour further afield – keep an eye on our social media channels and website for details! |
Christmas with QUSO
|
1ST DECEMBER 2021 | 7:30PM | WHITLA HALL, BELFAST
Introducing Christmas with QUSO, the Queen's University Symphony Orchestra's 2021 Christmas Concert! We were delighted to be back to performing after such a long time, and what better place than the Whitla Hall? Featuring music from Grieg, Warlock and Hans Zimmer, as well as Wham! and many Christmas favourites, this is a concert not to be missed! Due to Covid restrictions, the orchestra had been unable to rehearse together until the day of the concert, so our wind/brass and strings have rehearsed separately, preparing their own pieces under the batons of: Colm Mohan (strings) Maebh Martin (wind and brass) Poster: click here Programme: click here |
